It’s two years since our last cycle tour. In 2020 we had hoped to continue our south to north route through Europe with a ride from Hook of Holland to Bergen and further.
As with most things in 2020 that wasn’t to be....
2021 and we have both had two doses of vaccine, numbers of coronavirus cases are low in the UK, campsites are open and the open road beckons.
A staycation is the obvious choice and now that more exotic destinations are impracticable we have decided to try a trip that has tempted us for a while.
We have enjoyed many visits to the spectacular Fort Belan on the Menai Straits as guests of our good friends the Blundell family. Until now we have always driven there - a journey of five or six hours from home. This year we plan to cycle there and back via the Thames, the Kennet and Avon Canal and the Lon Las Cymru (a cycle route right through the heart of Wales). This should take about a week. We will return via the North Wales Coast route to Chester, then a mixture of NCN 45 and 5 for most of the route home - another week’s cycle.
It will be about 1000km in all and allowing for a week each way and a week at the fort will make a three week trip.
We will leave on June 7th all being well and I will update this blog as we go.
