71km, 310m climbing.
We had a pleasant, but not spectacular ride. It was unusual for us to start a tour from home, so we covered a lot of familiar territory. The Thames, Walton Bridge then Staines and the nasty steep gravel climb from Egham to the Runnymede RAF Memorial and into Windsor Great Park. We were now following NCN 4 which will take us all the way to Bristol. We crossed the Thames again at Windsor and had lunch by the river at Eton Brocas.
Pleasant lunch spot by the Thames.
Onwards past Dorney rowing lake, through Maidenhead and another long climb up Knowle Hill. Then it was downhill all the way to Reading where we are camping at the Wokingham Waterside Centre. It is very close to the railway, so let's see if we are tired enough to sleep through the train noise.
We were invited to supper by our niece, Charlie and family who live about a mile away and have just returned from a really lovely evening with them!
